Why does this group exist?
To put in simple words, the students at the orphanage get an opportunity to learn something that is very important for their future and the expatriates get an opportunity to give something back to the Korean community.
Have you partnered with other orphanages in Suwon?
No. Currently we teach the children of only this orphanage. Please visit here to learn about our other program in Ansan.
Do I have to volunteer every Sunday and Wednesday?
No. You can choose to volunteer either on Sundays or on Wednesdays. You will collaborate with another volunteer and will teach every alternate class. However, currently on account of just six volunteers and our aim to maintain a teacher to students ratio of 1:3, a few volunteers teach both days of the week.
Where are the classes held?
Kindly refer to this page. The transportation details to reach the orphanage are also given.
Can I volunteer on any other day i.e. Friday?
Since the orphanage has various activities throughout the week it may not be possible to volunteer on other day(s).
Is it illegal to volunteer under a work visa?
No. As long as you are under work visa and are not getting paid for volunteering, it is completely legal to volunteer anywhere in Korea. The immigration laws prevent you from having a source of income other than your primary source of income.
Is this a paid volunteer program?
No.
What is teaching like?
Kindly contact any of our members to hear about their experiences.
Can I get a computer, a projector and an audio system from the orphanage during the class?
We are sorry. The classroom at the orphanage does not have such facilities. However, you are free to bring your own laptop (notebook).
